چکیده

One weakness within computer integrated manufacturing is an inability to effectively and efficiently model, reason, and make inferences about threedimensional space. In this paper, we propose a qualitative model of x component ~ccording to its features to overcome this weakness. This model consists of two key ideas: CiJ the model treats features qualitatively i.e. independent of size, orientation, and global position, and CiiJ the model mathematically represents the spatial relationships among the features. The advantage of such a model will be its ability to reason about sp~ce in order to solve problems within the manufacturing processes. In addition to presenting the model, in this paper we will provide an example reasoning task of the model to find the multiple interpretations of a component. keywords: spatial reasoning, qualitative reasoning, multiple interpretations, features

Drawing Analogies by Systematic Spatial Inferencing for Manufactured Components

In this paper, we describe systematic analogical reasoning using a qualitative spatial model for manufactured components which incorporates both features and mathematical spatial relationships between features [7]. Solving this problem will be of benefit to manufacturing planning. We will discuss the definition and formulation of these computations] inferencing tasks, as well as their propertie...

Spatial queries with qualitative locations in spatial information systems

We discuss locations as defined by their qualitative spatial relations to other features, dubbed qualitative locations (QL). We further propose a mechanism to handle queries with qualitative locations in geospatial information systems. For the realization of the mechanism for QL-based queries, we propose a conceptual framework that takes advantage of models of qualitative spatial reasoning to b...

Qualitative Spatial and Temporal Reasoning with AND/OR Linear Programming

This paper explores the use of generalized linear programming techniques to tackle two long-standing problems in qualitative spatio-temporal reasoning: Using LP as a unifying basis for reasoning, one can jointly reason about relations from different qualitative calculi. Also, concrete entities (fixed points, regions fixed in shape and/or position, etc.) can be mixed with free variables. Both fe...

Efficient Estimation of Qualitative Topological Relations based on the Weighted Walkthroughs Model

Weighted walkthroughs are a quantitative model for representing the spatial relation between two raster features in image databases. In this paper, we establish a correspondence between the weighted walkthroughs and qualitative models for spatial reasoning. We provide rules for estimating qualitative geometric properties and topological relations from the quantitative data that are computed for...

Qualitative Spatial Reasoning: The Clock Project

Forbus, K.D., P. Nielsen and B. Faltings, Qualitative spatial reasoning: the CLOCK project, Artificial Intelligence 51 (1991) 417-471. Spatial reasoning is ubiquitous in human problem solving. Significantly, many aspects of it appear to be qualitative. This paper describes a general framework for qualitative spatial reasoning and demonstrates how it can be used to understand complex mechanical ...
